What is your cultural background?
My dad was Albanian and mum is Calabrese Italian.
My exposure to many different ingredients and cuisines in Australia opens up so many different flavour combinations from Middle Eastern to Vietnamese, Indian, French, Irish, English, Turkish, Greek, Lebanese, Chinese and Japanese. I am always interested in different flavours and how to combine or create new dishes to utilise our diversity. Also getting to know people from different backgrounds helps to deepen my understanding and appreciation of ingredients, cuisines and cultural traditions.
How has Australia’s diverse culture impacted on the foods you cook?
Food plays a very important role in bringing cultures together. To me, food is a universal language that can form simple uncomplicated connections.
What role does food play in bringing cultures together?
I believe it is important to learn and understand the different cultures of the people you work with because with understanding you form a connection, and from the connection you form a bond and higher respect for the cultural background of your co-workers
Why do you think it’s important to learn about and understand the different cultures of the people you work with?
Australians should get involved with A Taste of Harmony because life is too short to not embrace others cultures through food and bring more harmony to the world.
